Riyadh-Tokyo Flight Launch to Strengthen Economic Relations from November 2026

As part of an ambitious effort to strengthen international travel and tourism, Saudi Arabia’s flagship airline, Saudia, has announced the launch of direct flights connecting Riyadh to Tokyo, slated to commence in November 2026. The new route, which will operate three times a week from King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, is a significant collaboration between Saudia, the Air Connectivity Program, and the Saudi Tourism Authority. This venture is designed to foster stronger tourism, trade, and business ties between Saudi Arabia and Japan, providing an additional international gateway to the Kingdom.

The introduction of this route aligns with Saudi Arabia’s broader strategic objectives encapsulated in Saudi Vision 2030. This visionary framework, along with the National Aviation Strategy and National Tourism Strategy, seeks to position Saudi Arabia as a central player in global tourism and logistics. By enhancing access to the Kingdom, the new Riyadh-Tokyo connection is expected to play a key role in realizing these goals.

Efforts to boost tourism have also seen the Saudi Tourism Authority actively collaborating with Japanese partners to create attractive travel packages, showcasing Saudi Arabia as a desirable destination for Japanese visitors. This initiative is expected to drive an increase in tourist inflow from Japan, complementing the newly announced flight services.

In the context of major sporting events, the new flight path is poised to facilitate smoother travel to Saudi Arabia, particularly in light of the upcoming AFC Asian Cup 2027, which the Kingdom will host. This development highlights Saudi Arabia’s commitment to enhancing its global connectivity and accommodating international visitors for significant events.

Currently, Saudia serves over 100 global destinations and is in the process of expanding its fleet with the acquisition of 112 new aircraft. This expansion supports the airline’s mission to extend its international reach and improve service offerings, thereby reinforcing its status as a key player in the global aviation industry.
