Saudi Arabia Urges Unrestricted Navigation in Key Regional Waterways

In a recent session, Saudi Arabia’s Cabinet emphasized the critical importance of ensuring freedom of navigation across several key regional waterways, including the Strait of Hormuz, Bab Al-Mandab Strait, the Red Sea, and the Gulf of Aden. Highlighting the need for stability, the Cabinet urged that conditions in the Strait of Hormuz revert to those prior to February 28, removing any fees or restrictions that have since been imposed. The Cabinet firmly opposed any attempts to use these strategic routes as leverage for exerting pressure or issuing threats that could potentially harm the interests of other states.

The meeting also welcomed the United Nations Security Council’s condemnation of the escalating attacks against Saudi Arabia by the Houthi movement. This development was part of broader discussions on regional security matters, reflecting the ongoing tensions and challenges in the area.

Additionally, the Cabinet addressed the Palestinian situation, condemning any actions that affect the status of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its long-standing position that a lasting peace solution involves implementing a two-state solution. This would include the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem serving as its capital.

The Cabinet session also reviewed Saudi Arabia’s participation in the United Nations General Assembly, underscoring the nation’s commitment to fostering international cooperation and supporting multilateral initiatives. This aligns with Saudi Arabia’s broader diplomatic efforts to engage with global entities and contribute to international dialogue.
