Saudi Arabia and France are deepening their collaboration in the library sector, focusing on digital preservation, knowledge exchange, and professional training. This initiative was the main topic of discussion between Abdulrahman Al-Asem, CEO of the Saudi Libraries Commission, and Patrick Maisonnave, French Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, during their recent meeting in Riyadh.
The discussions highlighted an executive program between the Saudi Libraries Commission and the National Library of France, aiming to enhance the digital capabilities of libraries in both nations. This program includes efforts to digitize library materials, exchange electronic copies, and develop comprehensive digital collections. Additionally, the program seeks to provide training to advance professional expertise in the library field.
Both parties also reviewed plans for joint projects set to commence in 2026. These projects are designed to expand cultural and knowledge-based cooperation between the two countries, reinforcing their commitment to sharing expertise and resources in the library sector.
