Saudi Predicts 2026 Heat Surge, Potential Impact on Economy and Energy Demand

Saudi Arabia is bracing for an unusually hot summer in 2026, as indicated by the latest climate forecasts from the National Center for Meteorology. The predictions suggest that temperatures will exceed the norm across the entire country, with rainfall levels expected to remain at or below average in many areas.

In June, the nation is likely to experience rainfall that aligns with seasonal norms. However, moving into July, several regions, including Jazan, Baha, Asir, Makkah, Najran, and the Eastern Province, might see less rainfall than usual. Meanwhile, other areas could continue to receive precipitation at typical levels.

Temperature projections for June indicate a potential rise of up to 1.5°C above normal in numerous regions such as Jazan, Baha, parts of Makkah and Asir, as well as Madinah, Riyadh, Qassim, Hail, and Tabuk. This warming trend is expected to persist into July and August, with temperatures in Jazan, Baha, and sections of Asir and Makkah possibly climbing as high as 1.6°C above the usual averages, which would render these areas the hottest in the country this summer.

Meteorological authorities are advising the public and key sectors to stay informed through official weather updates and forecasts. This guidance aims to enhance preparedness and strategic planning in anticipation of the forecasted heat, ensuring that all necessary precautions are in place to manage the expected conditions effectively.
