Saudi Arabia and Serbia are strengthening their economic and diplomatic ties, aiming for closer collaboration in various sectors including energy, technology, agriculture, food industries, and trade. In recent discussions, both nations have focused on joint ventures in energy, advancements in information and communications technology, and agricultural partnerships. They have also deliberated on enhancing the presence of Serbian companies in the Saudi market while encouraging Saudi investments in Serbia.
A significant development in their diplomatic relations occurred during a meeting in Belgrade, where Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed Elkhereiji and Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Duric signed an agreement waiving visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and official passports. This move is anticipated to facilitate official exchanges, further solidifying the bond between the two countries.
The trade relationship between Saudi Arabia and Serbia has seen remarkable growth, with bilateral trade reaching $121 million in 2025, a substantial increase from the figures recorded in 2012. The upward trend continued into the first half of 2026, with trade volumes rising to $130.4 million, marking a 152% increase compared to the same period the previous year.
Looking ahead, the upcoming EXPO 2027 in Belgrade and EXPO 2030 in Riyadh are poised to offer additional avenues for investment and business collaborations, as well as the sharing of expertise. Saudi Arabia has confirmed its participation in EXPO 2027, where it plans to highlight its economic growth, innovative advancements, cultural richness, and investment opportunities.
Moreover, both nations are considering partnerships in science and technology. Serbia is set to participate in the Saudi Food exhibition in Jeddah, with over 50 companies showcasing their products, further enhancing the cooperative spirit between the two countries.
