Saudi Arabia and France Expand Economic Collaboration Beyond Oil Sector

France and Saudi Arabia are witnessing a transformative period in their economic ties, as trade between the two nations increasingly mirrors Saudi Arabia’s initiative to broaden its economic base beyond its traditional oil industry. In 2025, France’s exports to Saudi Arabia totaled nearly $4.5 billion, while imports from the Kingdom amounted to approximately $3.7 billion. Historically, Saudi Arabia has enjoyed a trade surplus with France, but recent figures indicate a notable shift in this dynamic.

This shift can largely be attributed to a decrease in France’s oil and petroleum product imports from Saudi Arabia. France has been actively diversifying its energy portfolio, and the relatively low oil prices in 2025 have further diminished the monetary value of its energy imports from the Kingdom. As a result, trade balance figures have leaned towards a more even exchange between the two countries.

Simultaneously, Saudi Arabia’s appetite for French goods has broadened across various sectors. There has been a marked increase in demand for French aerospace products, industrial machinery, pharmaceuticals, technology, and even luxury items such as perfumes and cosmetics. This growing market diversity aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, a strategic framework aimed at reducing the nation’s reliance on oil revenue by fostering new industries and economic sectors.

The evolving economic landscape has not gone unnoticed by French enterprises, which are increasingly exploring business prospects in the Kingdom. As Saudi Arabia continues to stimulate investment and economic activities across its non-oil sectors, French companies are positioning themselves to capitalize on emerging opportunities within this expanding market.
