FREELANDER: Shaping Premium Mobility’s Economic Future and Business Dynamics

FREELANDER is embarking on a transformative journey as it adapts to the evolving landscape of mobility, which now extends beyond simple transportation to encompass experiences defined by intelligent technology, connectivity, and flexible lifestyles. Established as a premium intelligent mobility brand, FREELANDER aims to cater to modern drivers and engage with global markets, aligning with the ongoing evolution of the automotive industry.

The original Land Rover Freelander, launched in 1997, was a trailblazer in combining all-terrain capabilities with passenger comfort and versatility, setting a new standard for urban off-road SUVs. The model became synonymous with adventure and exploration, becoming Europe’s top-selling SUV from 1997 to 2002 and solidifying its status as an iconic British SUV. This success reflected a growing consumer desire for vehicles that blend exploration with comfort and adaptability.

In a recent development, FREELANDER was reintroduced during the Night of FREELANDER at the IBS (Chery International Business Summit) as a British premium intelligent all-terrain brand. This new chapter is a collaboration between Jaguar Land Rover and Chery, aiming to merge the brand’s heritage with cutting-edge technology, connected ecosystems, and luxury mobility experiences. The brand plans to unveil six new SUV models over the next five years, expanding its presence to over 90 countries and more than 1,100 touchpoints globally. The Middle East has been identified as the initial strategic market, highlighting the region’s significance in the premium automotive sector.

FREELANDER’s future strategy is built on three main pillars: British Craftsmanship, Smart Confidence, and All-Terrain Freedom. The newly unveiled FREELANDER 8 showcases features such as panoramic digital displays, intelligent cockpit technologies, and second-row zero-gravity seating that enhance comfort and connectivity. Equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip, the vehicle supports up to eight displays and includes L2+ advanced driver assistance systems, along with Advanced VPD functionality for autonomous parking and smartphone-based vehicle retrieval in select markets.

Manufacturing for FREELANDER vehicles is centered at the Chery Jaguar Land Rover Intelligent Manufacturing Base, the first full-vehicle production facility for Jaguar Land Rover outside the UK. The plant incorporates over 1,100 robotic operations to ensure manufacturing precision and quality. As FREELANDER continues to evolve, it embraces the shift towards intelligent mobility, global expansion, and connected driving experiences, reflecting broader industry changes towards digital ecosystems and adaptable transportation solutions.
